This is the question, which everybody would like answered, but that
nobody can answer for definite. Jesus himself repeatedly said:
| 13
"Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in
which the Son of Man is coming. |
|
Matthew
25:13
|
| 42
"Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is
coming . |
|
Matthew
24:42
|
He did however
indicate the fearful state that the world would be in, just prior to
his return:
6
"And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you
are not troubled ; for all these things must come to pass, but the
end is not yet.
7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against
kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes
in various places. |
|
Matthew
24:6-7
|
1
...And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since
there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people
shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament,
And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever
and ever. |

Daniel
12:1-3

So
just before Jesus returns, there will be wars and rumours of wars, mankind
will be in fear of their lives, and there will be famine and earthquakes.
Doesn't that sound like the world that we live in today?
In
the Gospel of Luke Jesus describes how godless the world will be just
before his return:
26
"And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the
days of the Son of Man:
27 "They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given
in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood
came and destroyed them all.
28 "Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they
drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
29 "but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire
and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 "Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
|
|
Luke
17:26-30
|
The
references to the days of Lot and Noah refer to a wicked society where
people did not care about God and were just interested in satisfying
themselves. It was a "greed is good
. eat, drink and be merry
for tomorrow we die
look after number one" type of society.
Again, doesn't that sound like the world we live in today?
The
Bible also contains other prophecies of things that will happen just
before the return of Jesus e.g. the re-establishment of Israel (see
What has this to do with the problems in the Middle East at the moment?
for more details). The prophecy of Daniel explains the state of the
world powers prior to Christ's return (see How can we be so confident
that this Kingdom will come? for more details).
Perhaps
Jesus is set to return very soon. Are you ready for him? Do you want
a chance to live in this perfect Kingdom?
